AUSTIN, Texas — TESLA's purpose-built robotaxi, the CYBERCAB, will make its first public appearance in mainland China starting mid-September, with exhibitions planned in Beijing and Shanghai. The vehicle, which has no steering wheel, pedals, or rear-view mirrors, operates entirely on TESLA's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system.
The China tour follows the CYBERCAB's Asia debut in Hong Kong on September 9 and Tokyo on September 11. TESLA ASIA confirmed the exhibition schedule on social media, with Beijing set for September 18.

Mass Production and Technical Specifications
The CYBERCAB entered mass production at TESLA's Texas Gigafactory in April 2026 and officially launched passenger operations in Austin on September 3. According to EPA certification documents, the vehicle features a 48 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a front-wheel-drive motor producing 163 kW (approximately 219 horsepower), and a curb weight of 1,412 kg. The combined range is rated at approximately 418 miles (673 km).
The two-seat vehicle adopts a butterfly-door design and a minimalist interior with a 22-inch touchscreen. TESLA CEO ELON MUSK described the cabin as "basically a super comfortable lounge on wheels, with an amazing TV and sound system".

Operational Milestone
TESLA's head of AI, ASHOK ELLUSWAMY, announced at the Austin launch event that the company's Robotaxi fleet had surpassed 1 million miles of unsupervised operation, up from 380,000 miles disclosed in July—a 62% increase in just six weeks.
As of September 3, Texas records showed 420 autonomous vehicles registered by TESLA in the state, including 45 CYBERCABS. The CYBERCAB service is currently available only in limited areas of Austin, with no immediate plans for paid commercial operations.

Regulatory Scrutiny
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an Audit Query into TESLA's certification that the CYBERCAB complies with all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The agency said it will examine whether the company properly determined that certain safety standards do not apply to vehicles without traditional human controls.
TESLA China emphasized that the China exhibition is strictly a technology showcase and does not signal plans for local sales or commercial robotaxi operations in the Chinese market at this time.
